Comp youngsters triumph over Wigan Junior League with U12s in a thriller whilst U14s in full control.

The Liverpool Competition’s youngsters enjoyed a double success on Sunday with wins at U12 and U14 in the Lancashire Inter-League competition against the Wigan Junior League.

The U12s notched their second successive win in an exciting high scoring affair at Newton Le Willows in a game where all 22 players came from Liverpool Competition Senior Clubs. Dan Russell (Colwyn Bay) scored a fine 80, skipper Archie Davies (Formby) 33 and Jaden Rose (Firwood Bootle) (22) as the Comp youngsters compiled 186 for 7 in 40 overs. Luke Yates (Newton Le Willows) took 3 for 36 for the Wigan Junior League.

The Wigan reply went to the last over before ending eight runs short on 178 for 9 with Charlie Jones (Newton Le Willows) and Joe Sutton (Sutton) both making 41, Rose and Davies both taking two wickets apiece.  

Meanwhile in the reverse fixture at Hightown St Mary’s the U14s recorded a convincing nine wicket win after dismissing the Wigan outfit for 77, Nikhil Rao (Ormskirk) bagging 4 for 25 and Luke Evans (Rainford) taking 3 for 10. Leo Spilsbury (Sefton Park) 35 not out and Nathan Brighouse (Ormskirk) 33 saw the Comp lads safely home.

Both age groups now move on their next League Fixture on Sunday 21 July the Lancashire League U12s and U14s.
